Biography
Kristin K. Vogel, a Texas native, fell in love with opera at an early age watching productions at Houston Grand Opera.

As an artist, Ms. Vogel is known for her intensity onstage, her work ethic, and her congeniality.  She has been lauded for her powerful lyric voice, her control, and her musicality.  Ms. Vogel believes in making the timeless messages of classic operas resonate with modern audiences through musical and dramatic honesty, and is committed to the advancement of contemporary works.  From Grand Opera to Operetta to non-tonal pieces, Ms. Vogel exhibits versatility and a willingness to try anything that stems from a true love of music and singing.

As a child she showed promise as a performer, taking piano lessons and ballet in addition to participating in the Houston Children’s Choir and Glen Ellen Children’s Chorus.

Ms. Vogel went on to receive music degrees from the University of Southern California (BM), studying voice with Elizabeth Hynes, and from Manhattan School of Music (MM), where she studied under some of the nation's top music professionals, including the renowned vocal technician Joan Caplan.  Ms. Vogel distinguished herself in Opera Scenes performance classes with Ken Merrill, and as “Cleopatra" in the Baroque Aria Ensemble production of Giulio Cesare.

Ms. Vogel currently studies voice with Maria Spacagna.

In addition to her academic education Ms. Vogel has grown as a performer through intensive apprentice programs and study abroad, including a choral tour of  Germany, Prague, and Vienna, and multiple trips to Italy for language and vocal study.

Ms. Vogel was recently engaged to cover Micaela in Carmen with the 2009 Natchez Festival of Music, where she also performed Alice Ford in Falstaff and Cio-Cio-San in Madame Butterfly in a staged opera scenes program.


In 2008 Ms. Vogel was an Apprentice Artist with Des Moines Metro Opera, where she performed scenes from The Pearl Fishers, La Boheme, Così Fan Tutte, Menotti's The Consul, and Das Rheingold. 

 

Ms. Vogel was a Resident Artist at Dicapo Opera Theater for two seasons, during which time she had the opportunity to work with composer Tobias Picker in preparation for a concert of his works, in addition to performing roles including: Cecile de Volanges in the New York Premier of Conrad Susa's The Dangerous Liaisons, Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica), Frasquita (Carmen), Clo-clo (The Merry Widow), and a Madrigal Singer (Manon Lescaut). 

 

Ms. Vogel has also traveled to Eugene, Oregon, to sing the First Lady and cover Pamina in Eugene Opera's new production of Mozart's The Magic Flute, to appear with Eugene Opera in the Gala Concert for the 25th Anniversary of the Hult Center, and to perform Edith and cover Mabel in Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert & Sullivan. 

 

New York performances additionally include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with Opera Manhattan, Grisette/cover Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow) with Liederkranz Opera Theater, Valencienne (The Merry Widow) and Ida (Princess Ida) with the Village Light Opera Group and Frasquita (Carmen) with Opera Company of Brooklyn, as well as many performances at Manhattan School of Music.  

 

Ms. Vogel currently splits her time between residences in Las Vegas and Queens, New York.

 

Ms. Vogel's additional roles include Liù, Mimì, Countess Almaviva, Adina, Ilia (Idomeneo), and Gounod's Juliette.
